     Music Department

       Saturday, September 24, 2011 (7:30-8:30 pm)

The Albion College music ensembles are preparing

a diverse and exciting program in preparation of this

year’s homecoming concert. The concert begins on

Saturday, September 24 at 7:30 PM in Goodrich Chapel.

While a typical homecoming concert may feature two

ensembles performing alone or collaboratively, this

program includes Concert Choir, Briton Singers, and

Women’s Chorus, as well as the Symphony Orchestra,

Jazz Ensemble, Marching Band, and solo performers.

Senior Beka Kroesing, performing in Concert Choir and

Briton Singers, finds the homecoming concert more mean-

ingful than many other concerts. "I love Homecoming

because all of my friends who are alumni come and I get

to see them all,” she says. “The choir concert has always

been a favorite of mine as well, because of all the wonder-

ful music that we do!" Kroesing also singled “Awake the

Harp” from Hayden’s Creation and “Exultate Deo” by

Scarlatti as her favorite Concert Choir pieces to be per-

formed. The Women’s Chorus, directed by Karen TenBrink,

will perform the Chinese folksong “Jasmine Flowers,” an

a capella arrangement of the spiritual “Ain’t That News,”

and a piece by Mendelssohn. The concert is free and open

to the public. For more information, contact the music

         department at music@albion.edu or (517)-629-0481.

       Wednesday, September 28, 2011 (12 noon - 1 pm)

Baldwin Hall Mary Sykes Room -- Featuring some of

the most popular songs in the country, the hit, prime-time

show "Glee" focuses on the trial and tribulations of a

high school glee club.  The show is based on real life show

choirs and glee clubs and Albion alumnus Craig

Stangland, '09, bridges the gap between the real life and

the hit TV show with"Gleek Out: The Real Side of Show

Choir" on Wednesday, September 28, at noon in Baldwin

         Hall's Mary Sykes Room.

Stangland, sales and event manager with Bon Appetit

Management Company at Albion College Dining and

Hospitality, was a member of the award-winning City Heat

Show Choir in Columbia City, Indiana, for four years.

Stangland also sang with City Stars Show Choir at

Indian Springs Middle School in Columbia City and  with

Albion College's premiere a capella group Euphonics

         throughout his college tenure.
